The weather has been very good and the water clarity is very fishable. Even thou the wind has been out of the northeast or east over the last week, it has been constant.
First, perch have been very good, but day to day catches have come in. Of course this is fall and that is the way it goes. The minnows are in good supply but they are running a little small. Still get to the bait shops early for good supplies as well as the fish cleaners because waits at this time of year could be long. As the month goes on there will be less boats on the lake and that will be good for the true fishermen.
The perch are doing well north of the range cans and west of the islands. Also just north of Port Clinton and Catawba Island has been doing well. Further east the island area and around Kelley’s Island is still giving up limits of perch. This weekend we has two catches of perch that went 3 per pound and we were fishing between the islands.
Walleye have still producing on the rocks around the island area, from 6 to 25 feet. The walleye are moving back west and the school is just a few miles east of the Cedar Point area. As the water cools the fish should be back into the island area for ice fishing. The night fishermen are also well, but remember that safety factor while doing night fishing in the rocks.
We are planning to pull the boats at the end of the month, we still have some good dates available for those weeks.
Good fishing
Capt Bob Hughey
