The walleye are slowing down , but there is still some limits being caught around the west range cans of Camp Perry and at the Canadian line just west of the islands. A few walleyes are being taken on the reefs early in the day. Further east some walleyes are still being caught northeast of Kelley’s Island and just west of the sandbar off Vermillion. Both the trollers and drifters were taking fish based on the weather conditions. The walleye should pick up later this month as we get closer to fall fishing.
The perch are still producing and it’s only going to get better as we get into fall. The best areas for nice western Lake Erie perch are west of the islands just off the rocks to 2 miles off. Around the lower range bouys of Camp Perry, off Ballast Island, just west of the loading docks and south of Kelley’s Island. Areas around Sandusky are off the fog horn , off the lighthouse and just off Sawmill Creek. The bait shops still have minnows but they are in the large size right now, as we get into the fall the size should be better.
We still have some very good dates open for fall trips and the fall outlook is very good. Remember to properly release the small walleye that are being caught right now, that’s the future stock, thanks.
Good fishin
