Well another very good week has past and a lot of nice walleye came to the docks to be cleaned. It’s very clear that the walleye was slowed down by the mayflies, but the hatch seems to be slowing up and the eyes are focusing on bait fish, perch, and our lures. Here are a few areas that have been producing walleye to both the trollers and drifters alike.
The triangle and further northwest of west sister have been good. The reef area and G and H cans have been doing well, but the size is small and a lot of sorting is required. Just west of the islands and the reefs north of Kelley’s are holding nice walleye. Further east the school is slowly moving east towards the sandbar, but steelhead are still being caught. Across in Canada they are catching but at a limited rate.
Best tackle has been weight forwards and harnesses. The trollers are still using spoons and harnesses on both dipsys and jets.
The bass have been spotting, but the action should pickup as August arrives. The bait shops have a good supply of minnows for perch. The best areas are south of Kelley’s, off the lighthouse and fog horn.
We still have some good dates including weekends for some fun fishing. Feel free in contacting me on the web site, at www.lakeeriefishing911.com.
Good fishing
Capt Bob Hughey
