A great September! Fishing couldn’t be much better than it is right now off of the shores of Ashtabula, OH. Whether you’re gong for the jumbo Yellow Perch or the late season Walleyes, you won’t be disappointed. Even the big two-day blow, and rain that we had last as the remnants of hurricane Francis passed over Lake Erie did little to slow thing down.

The Walleyes have still not moved out of the area. We are doing very well in 72 ft. of water, anywhere from 10 to 17 miles out. The fish are quite deep but are very active. Very few Steelhead are being caught this season but we are still getting a few almost every trip out. This past Saturday we had a group from Wisconsin that just couldn’t get over the size of our Walleyes! Out of the fine batch of fish that we had, two were over 10 lbs. and the big Walleye of the day came in at 12 lbs.; a nice reward after driving so far.

I ran my first Perch charter on Sunday. While others have been running Perch trips right along, I’ve been very busy chasing the “Eyes”. It didn’t take long to get back in the swing of things. We had 150 truly big jumbos in the cooler by 9:00 a.m.! We anchored just east of the harbor in 55 ft. of water. Very impressive! In fact, it was such a nice day that we ran out a few more miles and trolled for a couple of hours and topped the catch off with a dozen or so huge Walleyes! Some days are just picture perfect.

I want to remind everyone that we still have some open dates for Perch in October. You can call me direct on my mobile number at 216-387-2656.

Capt. Walt
