Awesome! With each passing day the fishing off of Ashtabula, OH, just keeps getting better and better. In our second week back home at our homeport, I’ve seen more 30 inch Walleyes caught aboard “The Trophy” than I’ve seen in a long time!

Most of the Walleyes that we’re pulling right now are coming off of the planer boards with #40 Jet Divers and Michigan Stinger spoons. Best colors have been golds and coppers. The big Dipseys have been catching some fish each day but have not been dominant yet. When the fish drop a little deeper, they will start to light up. The Down Riggers for all practical purposes have been a waste of time. In two weeks of fishing, we’ve taken two down rigger fish. The same holds true for the riggers; when the fish go deeper, they will also have their moments. All of the fish that we are catching right now have been in 50 to 60 feet of water. This past week we also caught one Steelhead and of all things, we caught two Brown Trout on two different days! Most of the better Steelhead fishing is further out in the lake right now but the better Walleye fishing is closer in. This will all change when the Walleyes move out a bit.

I would like to remind everyone that we are also available for afternoon trips each and every day. These trips can be arranged at the spur of the moment, and with the Walleyes in close, limits can still be caught with the time we have to work with. These trips are generally from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The very best action is always in the morning and again towards the evening. If anyone is interested, please call me on my cell at 216-387-2656.

Whether you are bringing up your own boat or looking for a charter, I can assure you it’s happening big time right now off of the shores of Ashtabula and not to far out either!

Capt. Walt
