Central Basin

Walleye
Where: Fishing has been excellent around Ruggles Reef, on the Lorain dumping ground, in 40-to-60-feet of water north of Cleveland, in 50-to-65-feet of water northwest of Fairport Harbor, in 55-to-68-feet of water north-northwest of Geneva, and in 42-to-70-feet of water north-northeast of Ashtabula.
How: Anglers are using Dipsy and Jet divers with worm harnesses and pink, white, green and purple spoons.

Yellow perch
Where: Anglers are catching fish in 30-to-50-feet of water north of Cleveland, Wildwood Park and Chagrin River. Good fishing was reported in 43-to-48-feet of water northeast and west of Ashtabula, and in 40-feet of water north-northwest Conneaut. Shore fishing has been spotty off the E. 55th Street and E. 72nd Street piers in Cleveland and the west and east pier of the Grand River.
How: Perch spreaders with shiners fished near the bottom produce the most fish.

Smallmouth bass
Where: Fishing has been excellent in 17-to-22-feet of water around the harbor areas in Cleveland, Fairport Harbor, Geneva, Ashtabula and Conneaut.
How: Anglers are using drop shot rigs with tubes baits, leeches and soft craws.

White bass
Where: Boat anglers are catching white bass north of Cleveland, Eastlake and Fairport Harbor in 20-to-40-feet of water. Watch for the gulls feeding on the surface and the white bass will be below the school of emerald shiners. Anglers shore fishing are catching fish off the Cleveland piers, Eastlake CEI pier and the east and west piers on the Grand River with the evenings being the best.
How: Anglers are using agitators with jigs tipped with twister tails, small spoons and spinners.

Channel Catfish
Where: Fishing has been slowed down along the Grand River.
How: Anglers are using night crawlers and large chubs.


The Lake Erie water temperature is 69 off Toledo and 56 off Cleveland according to the nearshore marine forecast.


Anglers are encouraged to always wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device while boating.
